Both our full-time and part-time Online CELTA courses are 100% equivalent to face-to-face CELTA courses and lead to the same official Cambridge CELTA certificate. Online courses are suitable for those who wish to teach online, or for those who are unable to come in to study at one of our face-to-face venues, but who are comfortable working online. They are the ideal preparation for a career in teaching English online, a rapidly growing part of our profession.
Is online CELTA right for me?
You don’t need teaching experience to take CELTA. Whether you’re feeling stuck in your current job, just finishing university, or already working in education, CELTA is designed to give you practical skills, clear guidance, and a qualification recognised around the world.
Our trainees include recent graduates, career changers, online teachers, and people planning a move abroad. What they share is a decision to do something different, and a desire to feel confident in front of a class.

You could be taking the first steps to an exciting new career as an English teacher abroad from the comfort of home. An online CELTA course will prepare you for a professional career teaching English, whether in Asia, Latin America, the Middle East or in Europe. After a four-week course, you could be living a completely different life abroad, supporting yourself with a new career.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q. Do I need teaching experience to do CELTA?
A. No. CELTA is designed as an initial teacher training qualification. Many candidates have no formal teaching experience when they start the course.
Q. Do I need a university degree to apply?
A. No. You should have finished secondary schooling and be ready for university-level study, but you do not need a degree to do the course.
Q. What level of English do I need?
A. You need a strong command of English, typically equivalent to high C1 (advanced) or above. You do not need to present certificates to prove your level. Your level is assessed as part of the application and interview process.
Q. Is the Online CELTA the same qualification as face-to-face CELTA?
A. Yes. The qualification awarded is exactly the same CELTA certificate. The mode of delivery is online, but the syllabus, assessment criteria, workload, and certification are identical.
Q. How does teaching practice work online?
A. You will plan and teach lessons on Zoom to real adult learners of English. There will be about 8 to 14 students in the online classes you teach. You will receive support from your tutors when planning and you will be provided with teaching materials. Each teaching practice session is observed by a CELTA tutor, followed by detailed oral and written feedback to help you improve.
Q. Do I need to find my own students?
A. No. All teaching practice students are provided by DC Teacher Training.
Q. What technology do I need for Online CELTA?
A. You need a reliable computer or laptop, stable broadband internet, a webcam, and a headset with a microphone. You must be able to participate fully in live sessions and teach lessons online.
Q. Do I need to be in a specific country or time zone?
A. No, but you must be available for all live sessions, teaching practice, and feedback at the scheduled course times. Time zone compatibility is essential.
Q. Will you help me find a job after the course?
A. CELTA is recognised by employers worldwide. We provide guidance, support and resources on next steps and job-hunting after the course. All graduates will have the opportunity for one-to-one meetings with our team after the course to help them find work.
What Does a Full-Time Online CELTA Look Like Day to Day?
On a full-time online CELTA, weekdays are structured around a combination of guided lesson planning, live teaching, tutor feedback, and input sessions. Days often start with assisted lesson planning, usually scheduled the day before you teach. During these sessions, a tutor works closely with your teaching practice group to provide materials, give support with teaching ideas, lesson frameworks and any tricky concepts. On a full-time course, teaching practice usually runs for two hours every day, with several people teaching in turn. Each trainee normally teaches a lesson of around 40–45 minutes, and you will usually teach two to three times per week. You teach real English language learners online, not your peers. Immediately after teaching practice, you take part in a feedback session led by your tutor. Feedback is detailed, developmental, and linked to CELTA assessment criteria, helping you understand how your teaching decisions affect student learning and how to improve from lesson to lesson. Most afternoons are devoted to input sessions, which focus on teaching methodology, language awareness, lesson design, skills development, and classroom management. These sessions are practical and closely integrated with what you are doing in teaching practice rather than abstract theory. Alongside the live timetable, there is substantial independent work. This includes lesson preparation, background reading, and written assignments. On a full-time course, you normally complete one written assignment every week, working through all four CELTA assignments over the duration of the course. Independent work varies by week, but many trainees spend several hours most evenings preparing for the following day.
How the Part-Time Online CELTA Works: Weekly Schedule
The part-time online CELTA combines a weekly live teaching session with structured independent study spread across the week. Each week includes one live Zoom session, held on the same evening or morning each week depending on the course. During this live session, you complete teaching practice, followed by tutor-led feedback, and then assisted lesson planning to prepare for upcoming teaching. Outside the live session, most of the course happens in your own time. You complete guided e-learning units on the Cambridge Moodle platform. These units typically take four to six hours per week, and lesson preparation and assignment work usually require a further four to six hours, depending on the stage of the course. Most weeks on a part-time course include one teaching practice lesson, and written assignments are spaced out, with one assignment due approximately every three to four weeks. Overall, in addition to the weekly live Zoom session, you should expect to spend around 8–12 hours per week on independent study and preparation.
