Why Take a CELTA Course in Birmingham?
Birmingham isn’t just a great city; it’s the perfect base for your CELTA course, offering affordable living, easy transport, and plenty of ways to unwind after class. Birmingham has long been a vibrant and attractive city for young people, boasting 5 universities for students to study at. It is the youngest city in Europe, with 40% of the population being under 25 years old. A bustling nightlife, diverse restaurant scene and hundreds of student clubs and societies make Birmingham an energetic and lively city with plenty to see and do at all hours of day and night.
As the UK’s second city, Birmingham is rich in cultures, languages and people. A multicultural city is a city of celebration which means there’s always something going on, whether that’s Chinese Lunar New Year, Diwali, Vaisakhi or Birmingham Pride! Whatever your faith, you’re never far from a place of worship in Birmingham.
Birmingham’s districts are as diverse as its inhabitants. The famous Jewellery Quarter is home to high quality jewellers and many independent restaurants. Digbeth is home to a more creative and hipster crowd, with second hand shops and trendy bars. Edgbaston, Birmingham’s university district, is full of green spaces and home to the lovely botanical gardens and the cricket ground and is the ideal area to get away from the crowds.
What Can You Do in Birmingham During CELTA?
Birmingham is a city where you need never be bored, whether as a sports fan at an Aston Villa match or as a dance enthusiast at the Birmingham Royal Ballet, there is always something fun to do! Theatregoers always have something new to see, whether at huge venues like the Birmingham Hippodrome or at more intimate pub theatres.
Dining in Birmingham offers an array of choices, from the wonderful South Asian cuisine available all over the city, to budget-friendly market stalls and street vendors, to six Michelin star restaurants (the most in any UK city besides London).
Tourists in Birmingham can spend time shopping at one of the many outdoor markets or the famous Bullring Shopping Centre. They can also have chocolatey fun at Cadbury World, where Britain’s favourite confection is manufactured. Step count enthusiasts can join one of the many themed walking tours available around the city. Families can see aquatic life in action at the National Sea Life Centre. They can also visit one of the many galleries and museums Birmingham has to offer, such as the Coffin Works. As a city with 35 miles of canals, you can enjoy the outdoors with a picnic, or even hire a boat.
Birmingham, given its central location in the heart of England, is also perfect for day trips to, for example, the birthplace of Shakespeare, Stratford-Upon-Avon or the stunning medieval Warwick Castle.
While it offers everything you can expect from a large city, Birmingham is markedly more affordable and friendlier than London, which makes Birmingham an ideal place for a CELTA course.
